Petition for leaving-a-battle penalties
I've lost the past 4 or 5 Alliance battles because at least half of my team quit prematurely. Most of these people stayed in the game and just did other things.
Personally, I find this excrutiatingly frustrating and a terrible waste of time, not to mentoin something that takes away from the experience of the game (not my experience necessarially, but experience nonetheless).
Being said, I think that ArenaNet should put a penalty up against people who map out early that works in this fashion...
If the character has 0 to 500 gold - 25% of gold
If the character has 500 to 1000 gold - 20% of gold
If the character has 1 plat to 5 plat - 15% of gold
If the character has more than 5 plat - 1 plat for every five
OR (make it like a lottery)
20 percent of current allegiance faction
I think something like this would persuade people to only enter if they are serious about entering.

I think that you are right. I don't think the gold penalty will work though. It would have to be something like faction at least, I thinkg to work. But even more so of a penalty I think. Like unable to join the competetive mission for 2 days for your account I think. Maybe a progressive penalty to make it fair for those that don't know about it. I guess you could just warn them before they click yes to leave or something.
And if people do leave it would be nice to at least get an NPC or something in thier place. That way you at least have some sort of a chance.
Also, given time I think it will balance out. You will have less people "checking it out" and more of the people playing that know what it's about.

yea i agree totally its the most frustrating experience.. ive lost 2 alliance battles but both times the team stayed regardless and the 2nd time we started to come back once we got our team work down a bit better..
not sure if money would work but if faction is going to be used a lot in factions then losing that would prob hurt them more.. either way penalties are definetly needed because they detract from the game..

I Had enough of people even quitting cuz guild memebers on other side!!!
I really wish this would be taken care of

I know it's just preview weekend, but these leavers tick me off. It's not like that the whole thing takes a long time, how much time are they really saving by jetting early! I think the neg faction banning is an awesome idea...

I don't think so. It's usually more impatient people, that won't want to sit and wait for the battle to be over. So basically you hit them where it hurts. Moreso than a penalty. That's just numbers on the screen, whereas having to wait before playing is an actual penalty.

I don't think they should be able to take hard earned platinum, but I do think they should take faction points.
You earn faction by fighting not running, therefore you should lose faction for being a quitter.
My signature is for losing faction.
You would be quite pissed if the government took your money if you quit your job. But instead you only lose the chance to make more money, putting a stall on things. Like losing faction would put a stall on gaining skills or whatever it is that you gain in Factions.
But if a player gets disconnected, they should be able to tell somehow and not penalize that person.
But not if the person just logs out, because then everybody would just do that and nothing would change.

This is not only a problem in Alliance Battles, but also with almost every other side of PvP... Especially in random and team... grrrrrrrrrrr!
